You talked me into it...

I think you will be rather proud of me. I downloaded the book onto my ipod (I am so hopeless when it comes to electronic devices). It makes the LONG drive to Wyoming not so worthless. Every time I thought of six hours in the car that could be used for reading, I cringed. So, my first experience with listening to a book went fairly well!

Since I have not seen or read Great Expectations I can only take your word for the comparison. She is very much like all the powerful women you ever read about, money is her tool for control. There is a part of me that actually believes she wants the best for Kate though. Unlike Kate's family (they seem to be in it only for themselves) Aunt Maud has good intentions.

I too am interested in the parts that Milly and Mrs. Stringham play. It sounds as if they both have lead very sad lives. Is Milly sick, or heartbroken?

In a fictional story, Kate and Densher should marry for love and assume the rest will follow. In real life- it would be hard for them to survive on love alone. I'm glad it's fiction. :)

I will read as much as I can but finals are coming up very soon. In about three weeks, there will plenty of time for reading.
